Could the Summer Heat be a Trigger for Your Migraine?
There is something about the summer sun that is so inviting, and the moment the seasons change, there is nothing better than getting outdoors and soaking up a few rays. However, if you are one of the millions of migraine sufferers in the US, you might notice a pattern between your headaches and the sun coming out.
It’s important to stay hydrated all year round, but especially during the summer months. Dehydration can be fatal, but at the very least, it can cause problems such as headaches, lack of concentration and weakness. In fact, a headache can be your first warning sign that you need to take in some fluids. Keep a bottle of water on hand so that you can sip regularly and keep those headaches away.
Respect the Sun’s Rays at All Times
Summer sun can really cause serious problems, and if you don’t respect it and protect yourself sufficiently, you could be putting your body and your health at risk. Sunburn, sunstroke and dehydration are just some of these problems, but the brightness of the sun can also be enough to trigger a migraine. In addition to topping up the sunscreen, consider wearing a hat with a large brim and investing in good quality sunglasses. Beach umbrellas add an additional layer of protection at the beach or in the garden. Water sprays can also give you a blast of cooling refreshment when you need it.
Even Your Perfume Could be Your Enemy
If you can’t resist a dab of perfume before leaving home, or your summer products contain high levels of fragrance, you could be causing yourself a headache without realizing it. That also applies to sunscreens and insect repellents as these are often heavily fragranced to conceal any strong chemical scents. Look for products that are fragrance-free as these are less likely to cause a reaction if you are sensitive to fragrances.
